Our training programs, including Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), empower individuals to recognize signs of distress, engage in compassionate conversations, and connect those in need with appropriate help. Together, we strive to create an environment where everyone feels valued, supported, and equipped to save lives. Through collaboration and compassion, we can foster resilience and hope, ensuring that no one faces their struggles alone.

ASIST FAQ

Who can take ASIST?  Anyone ages 16 and up can take ASIST. ASIST was created so that anyone regardless of profession, education, and background could take the course.

Are there CEUs? After the training, participants can purchase CEUs through LivingWorks after passing an exam. There are 12 CEUs available.

How is ASIST different from other suicide prevention trainings? ASIST is considered the 'gold standard' of suicide prevention training by the World Health Organization. ASIST is not just information based, but interactive. The ASIST intervention model is simple to follow, making it so that anyone regardless of culture, profession, education and experience can tap into this model when needed to help in a crisis situation. Another difference is that it is 2 days. This allows time to gradually introduce material, and to build off of what is already known and then to practice what is being taught through role-playing activities.

How are the 2 days spent? Learning! Training is very interactive and was developed to engage participants through small and large group discussions, videos, Q&A, reflection, and guided role play to practice skills.

Trainer Information: The ASIST trainers are trained through LivingWorks directly. There are always 2 trainers for each training, with more participants the number of trainers increases to meet the need of the participants.  Your trainers will be the same both days of the training.

Does it expire? No, but it is strongly encouraged to retake every 2 years.

What is the cost? $200 and includes materials, lunch, and snacks both days.

What happens if I have to cancel? You have 1 year to sign up for a separate training date. This will be coordinated with KFS.

From the owner and her Why...

" Suicide is preventable. My dream is to teach my community that talking about suicide is what is needed to prevent suicides. ASIST teaches us how to have those conversations, and the beauty of ASIST is that it is for EVERYONE. Not just social workers, counselors, law enforcement, etc. It's for the aunts and uncles, the grandparents, and the neighbors. Anyone can intervene in suicide when they have the skills taught through ASIST."
